Dentistry

dvm2 (16)As in people, good dental care is critical to general health. We try to give our clients the most current advice on keeping their pet's dental hygiene as good as their own!

Kennett Square Veterinary Hospital is proud to be able to offer dental services for our clients.

Dental disease is more important than most people realize. It can lead to many health problems, including heart, liver, and kidney disease as it travels through the bloodstream. What is even more alarming is how many pets are affected with the disease. It is thought that 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats more than three years old have some form of dental disease.

Good dental health starts at home. Owners should brush their pets’ teeth. It is the best way to prevent the disease. Dental chews are also helpful, along with regular examinations by your pets’ vet.

It is very important to have your pets’ teeth examined by their veterinarian. Occasionally, pets need a professional cleaning under anesthesia. This is the very best way to clean their teeth. We are able to reach areas under their gums that owners simply can’t.

Discolored teeth, bad breath, and even difficulty eating are all signs of dental disease. Unfortunately, some pets have such severe problems with their mouths that owners notice blood. If your pets are showing any of these signs, it is important to have them checked out by your veterinarian as soon as possible.
